Holacracy (2)

What is it about ?

Holacracy is a complete open source system for self-organising. The traditional hierarchy is reaching its limits, but “flat management” alternatives lack the rigor needed to run a business effectively. Holacracy is a third-way: it brings structure and discipline to a peer-to-peer workplace.

Who should use it?

Organisations that want to become more flexible and adaptable without inventing the wheel of self-organisation by themselves.

Success story

Springest, the learning marketplace and platform, has implemented Holacracy 4 years ago as a way to retain the speed, sense of urgency and ownership they had as a young startup. Awarded “Beste Werkgever” by NRC in both 2014 and 2015, growing from 12 to 35 employees during that period and active in 3 countries.

Through a transparent rule set and a tested meeting process, Holacracy allows businesses to distribute authority, empowering all employees to take a leadership role and make meaningful decisions.

Authority is distributed, more specific roles replace job titles, rules are transparent and everybody can propose and implement changes to the organisation. See also

Extremely agile organisation that adapts itself from the inside out, responding quickly to changes in the market, with very engaged and measurably happier employees.

Advice for starters

Invest in learning, hire a coach, make a clean cut decision that Holacracy is now the way to make changes to the organisation, including the Holacracy implementation itself.
